Sharon L. Hastings

Sharon L. Hastings, 81, passed away on November 13, 2025, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY. Sharon was born on June 5, 1944, in Summit, NJ, to Walter and Jeanette (Owens) Hastings. She graduated from Painted Post High School in 1962, attended Corning Community College where she graduated in 1964, and earned her bachelor's degree from Oswego State in 1966.
Sharon was a devoted primary teacher at Beecher School in Elmira for 37 years before retiring in 2003. She enjoyed cross-country skiing, sailing, all kinds of needlework, gardening, being outdoors, and traveling. Most importantly, she cherished spending time with her family.
Sharon is survived by two brothers, Byron (Betty) Hastings of Painted Post and Douglas (Fran) Hastings of Ontario, NY, along with several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Westside United Methodist Church, 743 W. First Street, Elmira, NY 14901, on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Robert Briggs officiating. She will be laid to rest in Chapel Knoll Cemetery in Coopers Plains in a private graveside service. Carpenter's Funeral Home in Corning has been entrusted with her final arrangements.
