Sharon Spang, 79, passed away on May 2, 2025, at Care Partners Memory Care after a long illness with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born on June 11, 1945, in Appleton, the daughter of late Frank and Helen (Wilson) Verhagen. She graduated from Kimberly High School in 1963. On September 6, 1969, Sharon was united in marriage to Edmund J. Spang Jr. They showed what commitment to marriage and family looked like by lovingly supporting one another through challenges, making sacrifices for the good of their children, and remaining loyal and united over their 55 year marriage.
Sharon was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was incredibly generous with her love, attention, hugs and time. If you needed someone to sit with you in a waiting room, check out books at the school library, donate blood or volunteer weekly at the Community Christian Thrift Shop she was ready and willing to help.
She loved her many children. She and Ed raised two children Tara and Jason, and had an active hand in caring for her granddaughters Emma and Maggie. One of the many precious titles Sharon held was “Nanny”, she cared for her great nephews and niece; Nick, Josh, Sydney, Dylan and Jacob. She loved us all well, and she was loved by all who knew her.
Sharon is survived by her loving husband Ed Spang; children Tara (Scott) Pearce and Jason (Kristina) Spang; her beloved granddaughters Emma and Maggie Pearce; sisters: Janet Fiedler and Ginger Van Dyn Hoven; sister-in-law Jane Verhagen; brother and sister-in-law Edward Spang and Laura Olson; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and friends
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Helen Verhagen, brothers Richard (Luanne) Verhagen and Frank Verhagen Jr., sister Nancy (John “Popeye”) Vander Zanden, brothers in-law: Lyle Van Dyn Hoven and Jim Fiedler; father and mother-in-law Edmund and Delia Spang Sr; and brother Dennis (Delia “DeeDee”) Dvorak.
A private funeral service will be held on May 16, 2025 at Appleton Highland Memorial Park Chapel officiated by Deacon Bob Summers, with committal immediately following.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Care Partners—especially Sabrina, Kearra, and Lisa—for their loving care and compassion for Mom. We are also deeply grateful to Tracy from Compassus Hospice for her guidance and support in helping us carry Mom to her eternal home.
