It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sharon Kay McCafferty, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, who passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, at the age of 78. She was born on May 27, 1947, to John Nalisnick and Josephine Nalisnick.
Sharon is survived by her sister, Barbara Klaswick (Ron – deceased), and her twin siblings, Nettie Leone and John Nalisnick (Elise). She is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Michele York (Bruce), Kelley Brewer (Troy), Jessica Yonkoske (Gus), Rob Klaswick (Amber), TJ Nalisnick (Nancy), Josh Nalisnick (Anna), and many dear friends who loved her deeply. She joins in Heaven her parents, her beloved son, Clay McCafferty, and her stepmother, Betty Nalisnick. Family was very important to Sharon, and she cherished every moment spent with her beloved husband, Rodger McCafferty; her son, Neal McCafferty (Breanne); her three grandchildren, Kennedy, Broderick, Payton and her mother Cathleen.
In her early life, Sharon worked as a nurse at a Veterans Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She later moved to the Washington, D.C., area, where she met and married Rodger on October 7, 1972. Sharon was always very active and especially enjoyed being outdoors. She loved hiking and camping along the Appalachian Trail, canoeing rivers, and skiing in Vermont. She eventually moved to Colorado, where trout fishing and mountain climbing became part of her many adventures. Sharon climbed to the peaks of seven 14,000-foot mountains—an accomplishment that reflected her strength and determination. She later began playing tennis, which quickly became a passion. She joined a pro club and became highly competitive.
Sharon lived life to the fullest—whether watching her sons play hockey, designing several of the homes her family lived in, racing sports cars, or traveling to new destinations and embracing fresh adventures. Above all, Sharon loved the Lord. She studied the Bible faithfully, committing Scripture to memory and engraving its promises upon her heart. The Word of God brought her comfort, strengthened her spirit, and shaped the way she loved others. She was bright, kind, and deeply loving, unwavering in strength, courageous in spirit, and generous in grace.
Sharon’s legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the faith she embodied, and the adventurous spirit she inspired in those around her. She will be profoundly missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held close to the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
A funeral service will be held 2:00PM on Saturday, March 7, 2026 in the Chapel of Brown Funerals, the family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:30 until 2:00PM.
Burial will follow in The Ramsey Creek Preserve.
