Sharon Wangsgard, our beloved Sister, Aunt, and Friend passed away on May 25, 2024 at Maple Springs in North Logan, Utah.
Sharon was born on March 31, 1947 in Ogden, Utah to Ray Marvin and Vernell Hansen Wangsgard. Her two older brothers, Gary and Ross, were her special guardians from the beginning, continuing throughout her life.
Sharon was raised in the family home in Huntsville. She attended Valley School and graduated from Weber High School. Sharon then went on to attend Weber State College and graduated with a degree in Education. She taught P.E. and was the coach for the girls sports program for 38 years at South Davis Jr. High in Bountiful Utah.
It was also at Weber State that she met her best friend, Sherry Smith. Sharon and Sherry had many exciting adventures together visiting places all around the world on their summer breaks from school. Some of these places included Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Guatemala, Canada, China, and three trips to Israel. Sharon was nominated to be a torch bearer for the 2002 Winter Olympics for the genuine care and thoughtful concern she showed her junior high students as a teacher and a coach. This was an opportunity that she cherished and reflected on often.
Sharon never married or had children of her own, but because of her influence on her students and her 11 nieces and nephews her posterity is without number. Her greatest loves were kids and cats.
Sharon is survived by her two older brothers, Gary (Jolene) Wangsgard and Ross (Neva) Wangsgard, and by her 11 Nieces and Nephews and their families: Jeff (Julia) Wangsgard, Gaylene (Frank) Bruneel, Mike (Beth) Wangsgard, Ann (Rich) Oberg, Jana (Ken) Blaylock, Guy (Melissa) Wangsgard, Paul (Stacey) Wangsgard, Sue (Laird) Scheer, Jon Wangsgard, Konnie (Scott) Hofler, and Scott (Amelia) Wangsgard. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Steven, and her best friend Sherry.
Services will be held on Wednesday, May 29,2024, 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 277 S 7400 E in Huntsville, Utah, with a viewing prior at 10:00 a.m. Sharon will be buried in the family plot in the Huntsville Cemetery,.
