Sherman Saperstein, age 92, passed away after a brief illness on April 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Sherman was beloved by his family and friends for his kindness, generosity, and wit. He was born in Waterville, Maine, in 1932, to Edward and Rose (Rosenthal) Saperstein. After graduating from Colby College in 1954, Sherman joined his father to run the family business, Fairfield Lumber Company. The business prospered under Sherman's leadership, helped in part by the clever and humorous advertisements he wrote for the local newspaper and radio. He met his wife of 59 years, Linda (Missel) in 1964, and they were married in 1965. They raised their children, Mark and Heidi, in Waterville, and they continued to live there until his retirement in 1997 when they became permanent residents of Scottsdale, Arizona. He was a man of many talents, being an artist, poet, and humorist. In his later years, he became a prolific artist, and in honor of his 90th birthday his family published a book of his drawings. In addition to his wife and children, Sherman is survived by his sister, Audrey Shapiro, his sister-in-law Judy Sandler, Mark's husband, Eric Karnowski, Heidi's partner, Michael Oor, and several nieces and nephews. Donations in Sherman's memory can be made to First Place Phoenix, 3001 N. 3rd St. Phoenix, AZ 85012. Family will receive friends at his late residence and will be held on Thursday April 18th, Friday April 19th, and Saturday April 20th from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Sherman wrote the most beautiful poem when my mom Gisele passed away in 1997. He adored her, as she did him. They shared a love for family and for the arts.
Sending hugs to you, Linda.
