Sherry Kiefel, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away in Lacey, Washington on

Monday, June 30, 2025 at the age of 82.

Sherry (Phillips) was born on March 7, 1943 in Snoqualmie Falls, Washington and graduated

from Mt. Si High School in 1961. While in high school, she was an enthusiastic member of the

Mt. Si Pep Club and was the Fall City Derby Day Queen in 1957. After graduating, she attended

Washington State University and subsequently worked at American Hospital Supply, where she

met her future husband, Rolland Kiefel. They were married on August 14, 1965 and started a

family. The couple moved from Kirkland, Washington with their two daughters to Issaquah,

Washington in 1974, where they became active members of Our Savior Lutheran Church. The

couple resided there until 2016, at which time they moved to their current home in Lacey,

Washington.

In 2008, Rollie and Sherry also purchased a home in the Viewpoint 55+ Retirement community

of Mesa, Arizona, where they spent their winter months enjoying the sun and social life. During

these winter months in Mesa, Sherry was a member of the Love of Christ Lutheran Church.

From 1976-1990, Sherry worked as the Parish Secretary for Our Savior Lutheran Church in

Issaquah, and in 1990, she became the Administrative Assistant to the Sisters of St. Joseph of

Peace in Bellevue, Washington. At both places, Sherry loved helping others, supporting the

clerical staff, and serving the communities. During this time, Sherry also became an Associate in

Ministry (ie Deacon) for the American Lutheran Church and served in this position until 2004.

Additionally, she served the church as an NWWA Synod Secretary and Chair, and she was a

member of the Association of Professional Lutheran Lay mInisters, an ELCA Board President,

and an AIM representative.

Throughout her life, Sherry loved travelling with Rollie to their favorite vacation spots in Hawaii,

Ocean Shores, and Leavenworth; going on cruises; spending time with family; nurturing the

hummingbirds in her backyards; tending to her flower box gardens; reading her Christian

devotionals as well as the latest Best Sellers on her Kindle; and sipping her daily, very

personalized Starbucks Iced Lattes ("Venti-Vanilla-Almond Milk-One Splenda-Light Ice-Dome

Lid"). She was known for her peaceful and graceful demeanor, her kind and caring personality,

and her welcoming smile. She will be truly missed.

Sherry is survived by her loving and very devoted husband of almost 60 years, Rolland Kiefel;

her daughters Keli (Ken) Gritter and Whitney (Scott) Pomeroy; her grandchildren Maegan

Gritter, Dyllan (Hayley) Gritter, Logan Gritter, and Taylor Pomeroy; and her sister Pam (Rick)

Howitt.
