Fort Fairfield - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Sheryl F (Smith) Nevers, age 75, who lost her courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, March 30, 2025. Sheryl passed peacefully at Presque Isle, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and inspiration.
Sheryl (Smith) Nevers was born on July 15, 1949, in New London CT to Stoner and Helen (Haller) Smith. She lived a life full of kindness, grace, patience and unwavering determination, touching the lives of all who knew her. A beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend, she leaves behind a profound impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Throughout her journey, Sheryl faced her illness with unmatched bravery. She was a beacon of hope, not only for her family but for countless others who were inspired by her perseverance, resilience, and the dignity with which she approached every challenge. Her positive attitude, compassion, humor, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by those who had the honor of walking alongside her during her battle.
Sheryl spent over thirty years as a volunteer supporting service members and their families in multiple ways, such as cooking, creating baskets for raffles and fundraising. Sheryl was the chairman of bereavements and donated her time to anyone in need. Sheryl was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. Post 6187 and American Legion Post 490.
Sheryl was known to love bling, her cat Boss, sports, cooking and teaching others to do so. Sheryl loved playing cards and video chatting with her great-grandsons. Sheryl was known for her beautiful smile, kindness and her selfless nature. She loved to help others whether it be family, friends or community and enjoyed bringing smiles to all she encountered.
Sheryl is predeceased by her loving husband William Nevers, her parents Stoner and Helen (Haller)Smith Nicholson, her brother Guy Smith and her sister Mary Ann Neigel
Sheryl is survived by her daughters Tammie Coombs and Tina Ireland; her son David Day; her grandchildren Jessica Day, Autumn Bridges, Breanna, Cassy, Desiree and Emilie Coombs, Cheyanne and Dakota Day; her great grandchildren Addison Day, Logan, Corbyn and Emerson Cianci; her brother Stoner Smith; sisters, Pam Rutgers, Helen Newman, Berta Blaney, Suzie Brady and Andrea Fredette. Sheryl also leaves behind a special brother-in-law, David Fredette, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews, her dear friends Dorothy Martin, Steve and Jancie Smith and Donna Levasseur. Special thanks for her friends and neighbors, Andy and Desiraie Milliard and Jason and Debbie Barnes, for always being there.
A celebration of her life will be held on April 25th, 2025, 10:00 am at the VFW 130 Presque Isle St, Fort Fairfield, where friends and family can gather to share memories and honor the beautiful life she lived. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to VFW auxiliary post 6187 in her memory. Though we mourn the loss of Sheryl, we find comfort in knowing her love will continue to guide and inspire us. Rest in peace, dear Sheryl. You will forever remain in our hearts.
