ASHTABULA – Dr. Shin E. Huang, 81, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
He was born on April 3, 1942 in Taitung, Taiwan. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Monrong Huang. He attended medical school at Taipei Medical University from 1961-1965. After graduating, he served in the military in Taiwan. He then came to the United States in 1968 for his internship at Grant Hospital in Chicago. He completed his residency at Good Samaritan in Cincinnati, Ohio.
He met his future wife, Seung, in Chicago who was from South Korea. They married in 1969. They came to Ashtabula in 1972 to begin his career as an Obstetrician and Gynecologist. He had practiced for 42 years and delivered over 5,000 babies. During his tenure at ACMC, he served as President of the medical staff and on the Board of Trustees. He devoted himself to his family, his patients, and to his community. He generously donated to create the Dr. Shin E. Huang Women's Imaging Suite. The atrium of the new tower of ACMC will also be named in honor of him.
In addition to medicine, Dr. Huang had many talents and hobbies. He enjoyed playing golf and had two hole-in-ones in his golf career. He was a long-time member of the Ashtabula Country Club and later became co-owner of the Harbor Golf Club. He was always active in his earlier years and even was ping pong champion of Ashtabula County. He also enjoyed gardening and doing yard work.
He was an active member of the Ashtabula Korean Church and served as a Deacon.
His survivors include his wife of 54 years, Seung Huang; three children, Joseph Shin Huang (Sarah Mikhail) of Hudson, Dr. Roger Saak Huang of Concord, and Dr. Audrey Hee Huang (Juan Espinosa) of Huntington Beach, CA; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Jacob, Jonathan, Andrew, Sofia, Ethan, and Colin Huang and Justin and Dylan Espinosa; two great-grandchildren, Brooklynn and Landon Huang; his sister Fu Mei Liu and his brother, both in Taiwan; nephews Dr. Isaac (Ingrid) Yoon and Dr. Sydney (Kyung) Yoon; nieces, Christine, Diana, Michelle, Nancy, Tracy, and Jennifer Liu; and many other family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Calling hours will be from 2-5pm on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at the Zaback-Williams-Ducro funeral home, 500 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
A private service will be held on Monday January 15, 2024 at the Korean Church of Ashtabula, 2300 Austinburg Road, Ashtabula.
