Shirley D. (Woods) Barnes, age 85, of Akron, went home to be with the Lord on Friday August 23, 2024. She was born on December 23, 1938 in Menden Hall, Mississippi to the late Rose (William) and A.W. Williams. She retired from Valley View Nursing Home after over 20 years of service. She enjoyed flower gardening, music, the outdoor and especially her family.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Theodore Woods and second husband Andrew Barnes; son Bruce Woods; granddaughter Taylor McElroy; sister Gloria Everett; and brothers Ted, Ulysses, Junior and Herbert McGee.
She is survived by her daughters Carol Woods and Valerie McElroy; grandchildren Shannon, Ashstine, Marc, Deonté, Victoria, Johnté, Sadé; great-grandchildren Amirrya, Kyleigh, Marleigh, Logan and Nyla; brother Sonny McGee; sister Ann Branch, Willie Ruth Everett and Betty Oberton; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, September 6th from 11 AM- 1 PM. A procession will form at the funeral home for departure to Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery for a 2:15 PM graveside committal service.
