Shirley Fluet

Shirley (Bragdon) Fluet, 91, of Vernon, beloved wife of 55 years to the late Norman J. Fluet, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 17, 2025. She was born on August 30, 1933, in Freetown, MA, daughter to the late Gilbert F. and Geneva E. (DeCosta) Bragdon.
Although a native of MA, Shirley lived in Vernon, CT, for over 50 years calling it home. It is there where she raised her large family, along with some children who were not her own, all of whom benefited from her structure, nurturing, and guidance. She was a professional secretarial college graduate who had a career as an Executive Secretary with Brand-Rex Company for many years, where she was highly respected and enjoyed the challenges of her position. She was accomplished in sewing, knitting, and crocheting, and spent countless hours crafting beautiful blankets, sweaters, hats and mittens, and even a hand crocheted tablecloth. She had a very adventuresome spirit and was a force of nature. She owned and rode a motorcycle at a time when it was unheard of for women to ride. She loved to dance and to regale all with her life experiences, which were vast and unpredictable, such as that time she flew an airplane or rode a stallion. She will always be loved and greatly missed.
Shirley is survived by five children, Brian Fluet and his wife Sharon of Charlotte, NC, Chris Fluet and his wife Kandi of Franktown, CO, Sarah Allard of Canterbury, CT, Barry Fluet and his wife Terrie of Storrs, CT, and Kenneth Fluet of Willington, CT; her fourteen grandchildren; her daughters in law, Anne Fluet of Charlotte, NC, and Christine Fluet of Columbia, CT; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Dana Fluet and Scott Fluet.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd. (Rte 83) in Vernon. At the request of her family, interment will be held privately in her family lot in Assonet Burying Ground, Freetown, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, CT Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd., Ste 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
