Shirley Sue Frye Moore, 88, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in Flagstaff, Arizona, after a long illness. She was born on February 16, 1937, in Vincennes, Indiana, to Cecil Ashley Frye and Madie Vantlin Frye. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack Lee, her sons John Allen and David Wayne, and her sister Corinna Frye Druckemiller.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Kem (Stephen) Tegler of Flagstaff, Arizona, and granddaughters Ryley Tegler of Tucson, Arizona, and Logan Tegler of Honolulu, Hawaii; daughter-in-law Roxanne Moore and granddaughters Kelsey Moore, Monica Moore, and step-granddaughter Casey Kurdys of South Bend; Jamie Moore Oswalt of Muncie; and Rebekah (Lee) Moore Carter of Kokomo. Several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive her.
Shirley moved from Vincennes to Muncie when she was nine. She graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1955. In 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, Jack Moore. They were happily married for 57 years until Jack's passing in 2014. Shirley retired from Claypool Elementary School, where she worked in the cafeteria for 30 years. She was a longtime member of the Garden at Gethsemane, United Methodist Church, and the Randolph Ramblers Camping Club. To all who had the pleasure of knowing her, Shirley was someone who cared deeply for her family and friends. She loved spending her winters in Fort Myers, Florida, with Jack, visiting her daughter in Arizona, and enjoying time with her granddaughters. Shirley cherished the home where she had lived for 66 years, raising her three children and later watching her granddaughters play around her. Shirley's loss will be felt more deeply than words can express. Shirley lived her life caring for those she loved and filling her space in the world with laughter, joy, love, and faith. Her memory will be carried on by those who loved her the most.
Shirley's family wishes to sincerely thank hospice nurses Staci and Rayne, along with the staff of Northern Arizona Hospice, for their compassionate and loving care of Shirley.
There will be no services. Burial will take place at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org
