Shirley Ann "Tootie" Krebs of Clinton, Tennessee, age 93, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Canterfield of Oak Ridge Assisted Living.
Tootie was born March 12, 1932, in Southgate, Kentucky, to the late Edward William and Aileen Elizabeth Simon. Tootie attended St. Therese Catholic School in Southgate, Kentucky, where she met her belated husband, George Henry Krebs, Sr., graduated from Notre Dame High School in Covington, Kentucky, and married in February of 1954, after George's return from service in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Together, she and George raised 4 children. They relocated to Clinton, Tennessee, in 1969, where they owned and operated Krebs Chevrolet in Clinton for 22 years, with Tootie serving as office manager and bookkeeper, a skill she learned while working for her father at Simon & Fischer Oldsmobile in Newport, Kentucky.
Tootie was a devout Catholic and founding member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Clinton, Tennessee. She was an active member of the Council of Catholic Women for many years, participated in Bible study groups, sponsored numerous converts through the RCIA process, and promoted devotion to the Divine Mercy. In addition to her deep faith, Tootie's devotion to her family was a top priority, especially enjoying time with her grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory are her sister Donna Timmers, sons Dr. George Krebs, Jr. (Myra), Joe Krebs (Chantel), and daughters Lori Puryear, Julie Edmondson (Carl), grandchildren Sarah Burns (Joseph), Alex Krebs (Emma), Katie Schreiber (Bryan), Andrew Cook, Ryan Cook, Matthew Puryear, Blake Edmondson (Kelsey), Peyton Krebs, step-grandchildren Branton Brown, Dan Edmondson (Andrea), Josh Edmondson (Charity), Katie Meister (Jon), Carla Pimental (Mike), Cory Richardson, Cameron Richardson (Carolyn), and great-grandchildren Avalyn Maier, Josie Burns, Keaton Schreiber, and Kaiden Schreiber, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by brother William "Bill" E. Simon and wife Dixie, brother-in-law Paul "Tim" H. Timmers, son-in-law Marshall H. Puryear and granddaughter Leza A. Watts.
The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation for the loving and compassionate care received from the administration and staff of Canterfield of Oak Ridge Assisted Living and Tanya Maxie, R.N. from Covenant Hospice of Oak Ridge, as well as Theresa Tinch, Tootie's devoted sitter and friend, for her kindness and companionship. In addition, the family would like to express gratitude to dear friends Fr. Dennis Kress, Pastor of St. Therese Catholic Church, Clinton, Tennessee, and Deacon Dan Hosford of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Norris, Tennessee, for their unwavering weekly visits, prayers, and administration of sacraments.
Receiving of friends will be Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 9:00 A.M., at St. Therese Catholic Church in Clinton, Tennessee, with the Funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M. The graveside service will immediately follow at Grandview Memorial Garden, Clinton, Tennessee. It was an absolute honor to be on of the resident assistants to help care for miss Tootie at Canterfield. For 2 years I got to know Tootie and her family allowing me and others to care for her and love her was selfless. I will always remember her and George, as I was a caregiver for both during their time here. I will miss her giggles, her jokes and her radiating smile! Miss you already miss Tootie!
