Shirley Ann Laramie, 95, a resident of Fort Gratiot, passed away in her home on October 21, 2024 with her husband Ronald by her side. She was born on January 9, 1929 in Highland Park, Michigan.
As a young girl, Shirley liked playing baseball with the boys in the neighborhood. She said she was a real tomboy! Shirley graduated at age 17 from Cooley High School in Detroit. She then began to write letters to her neighbor Merton Raymond Glutting while he was in the service. When he got back home, they got married on 12-23-1948. They were married for 34 wonderful years and had three children (one stillborn) until Merton passed away in 1982.
Shirley worked for Sealtest and ran a comptometer. She enjoyed working at Riley Junior High in Livonia as a secretary. Shirley also worked at Bendix and retired from Ford Motor as an executive secretary in 1990.
Shirley Ann met Ronald Chester Laramie on a one day free dating app in October 2003. They dated three months and were married on January 31, 2004. Shirley's family grew with Ron's eight adult children, their partners and grandchildren. Ron and Shirley both enjoyed going to casinos, listening to old country and Irish music as well as watching old movies. They celebrated 20 years of marriage on January 31, 2024. Shirley was 95 and Ron was 90. We had a wonderful family dinner and celebration to mark the occasion at the River Crab Restaurant!
Shirley loved her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She had a very vibrant personality, loved to talk and share funny stories, rhymes with the grandchildren and was always willing to give a hand if someone needed help. She lit up a room when she walked in!
Shirley was a member of Unity of Detroit and Unity of Livonia for over 50 years. She devoted her life to God and her family. She still read the Daily Word every day. Ron and Shirley would hold hands and say grace whether they were in their apartment by themselves, with family or at a restaurant.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband Ronald of 20 years, her son James (Carole) Glutting of Lexington, her daughter Carol Glutting Watson of Lexington, Jay Laramie and Laureen Murphy of Connecticut, Carolyn (Bob) Pastrick, Roni Sue (Bruce) Bishop, Martin Laramie, Lori Laramie, Joel (Shari) Laramie, Stacey Laramie Louvier and Todd Schultz all from Canada, grandchildren James Watson of Commerce Twp., Jennifer (Matt) Douglas of Sarnia, Julie (Nathan) Rozof of Jacksonville, FL and Shannon (Thomas) Moelhave of Denmark. She has 8 great grandchildren Wesley, Marcus, Gavin, Shane, Julia, Emily, Aven and Reid that she was very close to. She also has 25 Laramie grandchildren Ray, Rachelle, Frani, Sue, Ed, Cathy, Bob, Ron, Michelle, Wes, David, Jen, Joel, Jodi, Tera, Danielle, Erin, Megan, Dean, Bryce, Bella, McKenzie, Emily, Brooke and Michaela.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Merton Raymond Glutting, her stillborn daughter Diana Lee Glutting, her mother Irene Munday, her father Samuel Munday, her infant brother Arthur Edward Munday, sister Jean Priebe Fredericks, sister Geraldine Vanhecke, nephew Mark Vanhecke, son-in-law John Watson, stepson Robert (Robbie) Laramie, Bruce Bishop Jr., Brian Pastrick, Christopher and Jillian Louviere.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 26, 2024 at the Assembly of God in Port Huron at 11 AM. It will be officiated by Shirley's nephew Gregg Glutting. A luncheon will be held afterwards at the church. Please RSVP to Shirley's daughter Carol Glutting Watson at: [email protected] if you are able to attend.
