Shirley Ann Phillips, 83, of Grinnell, died on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
A private family graveside service will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Shirley was born on January 17, 1942, in Chariton, IA to Homer and Dorothea Shirer Dodson. Her family moved to Grinnell at a young age, and she graduated from Grinnell High School with the Class of 1960. Shirley continued to stay close with her graduating class and enjoyed monthly coffee gatherings.
On January 19, 1963, Shirley was married to Paul Phillips in Grinnell. Together they were blessed with four children: Kelly, Frederick, Kimberly, and Kathryn. Shirley raised her family in Grinnell while also working as a bank teller at Brenton Bank and later as a bookkeeper for Surgical Associates.
Shirley is survived by her children, Kelly (Doug) Wiley of Pella, IA and their children, Shawn, Rachel (Tyler), and David, Frederick (Kim) Phillips of Braselton, GA and their children, Jamie, and Madison (Megan), Kimberly (Glenn) Streich of Cresco, IA and their children, Tori (Greg), and Coulton, and Kathryn (Brian) Ryerson of Platte City, MO and their children, Hailey, Makenzie, and Kaedon; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Donna (Sam) Keup.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Phillips, and her five siblings.
If desired memorial contributions may be designated to the Grinnell Newburg School District to benefit the Paul Phillips 8th Grade Campout. Memorials may be mailed in care of Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
