Shirley Eilene Wilkinson

Portsmouth - Shirley Eilene (Lowe) Wilkinson, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025, in Portsmouth, VA, at the age of 82. Born on October 17, 1942, in Southampton County, VA, Shirley was the beloved daughter of the late Bill and Grace (Rollins) Hartman. A graduate of Granby High School in Norfolk, Shirley embarked on a fulfilling career in education administration, beginning as a dedicated secretary and later advancing to the role of office manager at Seatack Elementary School in Virginia Beach. Her professionalism and warm demeanor left a lasting impact on colleagues and students alike. Outside her professional life, Shirley was a woman of many talents and passions. She found immense joy in creating stunning stained glass pieces, sewing, and expressing herself through art. Her love for line dancing brought her great happiness, and she cherished the community and friendships it fostered. Shirley's life was enriched by the love and companionship of her long-time partner, John "Shep" Wilkinson, who preceded her in death, alongside her parents and her dear sister, Charlotte Hohman. Her memory lives on through her surviving family: daughters Sandi E. Moore and her husband Robert, Robin Ewing and her husband Jim; her devoted son, Trey Wilkinson; granddaughters Courtney Wilkinson and Tessa Ewing; and grandson James Moore. She is also survived by her brother Jay Hartman and his wife Linda, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will deeply miss her presence, wisdom, and kindness. A celebration of Shirley's life will be planned for a later date, where her family and friends will gather to honor and remember the beautiful life she led.
