Joel Pittman

Joel Pittman, affectionately known as "Chen," was born September 25, 1954, to the late Leola Simpson "Tootsie" Pittman and the late Milton Pope, Sr. He entered into God's eternal presence on July 2, 2025.
He graduated from Granby High School and attended Norfolk State University.
In high school, he played numerous sports including baseball and football. He was an avid sports enthusiast. He was a competitive bowler, winning several local tournaments. He loved playing Chess and any sport that was challenging.
Joel had a larger than life personality and would bring laughter anywhere he went. He was loved unconditionally by his family and friends.
He retired from the Norfolk Ford Motor Assembly Maintenance Plant. He started as a Spray Painter, successfully completed the Apprenticeship Maintenance Program, and ended his career as a Certified Pipefitter.
Joel was preceded in death by his grandmother, Minnie Pittman; his brother, A. Maurice Pittman; eight aunts; and two uncles.
He is survived by his loving wife, Annette C. Pittman; his son, Breyon Freeman and daughter, Ashlae Saunders; a sister, Patricia P. Baugh (Alvin) and a brother, Milton Pope, Jr. (Cindy); two nieces, Nicole and Natalie Baugh; a special cousin, Larry Butler; and a host of loving cousins, other relatives and friends.
His memory will be cherished forever by everyone he encountered. May his legacy bring us comfort during this difficult time.
This is not saying goodbye. This is us saying until we meet again.
