On January 10, 1959 Edward Pryor Currie and Ethel Mae Hawley Currie welcomed a son into their lives and they decided to name this bouncing bundle of joy Sonny Junior. Being raised in the Glen Raven Community of Alamance County, Sonny attended the local school system and was a proud graduate of Walter M. Williams High School with the 1977 class. Following his graduation he enlisted into the United States Army and served valiantly for four years and was honorably discharged. Prior to relocating to the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, he was was gainfully employed with Firestone for several years.
During his youth he was an active member of Allen's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and sang with the choir. Sonny loved his family dearly and enjoyed any amount of time he was afforded to spend with them. He enjoyed fishing and was a Washington Commanders (Redskins) and UNC Tarheels fan. He was the most gentle and loving soul you could meet. Very loving and giving, while some saw this as advantageous to their own gains, Sonny never held grudges and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He leaves loving and lasting memories to his siblings: Angelia C. Woods (Bryant), Linda Lou Currie, Frankie Currie and Allen Currie; three nieces: Dietra Monique Woods, Shanence Woods and Lisa Cox; two nephews: Kito Wiley (Lindsay) and Kenny Currie; three great-nephews: Noah Woods Clay, Josiah Maxwell and Rudolph Wiley; two aunts: Sarah Venable (Charlie) and Brenda Enoch; sister-in-law: Stephanie Wiley; special cousin: Geneva Morton Garland as well as a host of cousins and dear friends.
On Sunday March 16, 2025 without any warning, Sonny Junior Currie exchanged time for eternity. In his passing he now joins his loving parents Edward Pryor Currie and Ethel Mae Hawley Currie; brothers: Edward Louis Currie, James Earl Currie and Rudolph Wiley.
