Sonya Jean (Carter) Worthington was born on October 19th, 1938 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Herbert Lee Carter and Elise (Wakeham) Carter, the second of four children.

Sonya finished her schooling in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin. She lived in Rockford most of her life. Sonya had many careers. She worked as a waitress, housekeeper, home care aid, food server, and a domestic engineer for many years. Sonya retired from working in 1998.

The love of Sonya's life was her God, his Son, and his organization. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1961 in symbol of her dedication to serve Jehovah forever.

Sonya's family was also very precious to her. She especially appreciated the last few years of her life, how her children took wonderful care of her needs. They made sure Sonya was well provided for.

She passed away in death on Friday August 8th, 2025 with Jon, Sheila, and other loved ones by her side.

She was predeceased in death by her parents; her brother, Gerald Lee Carter; and her son, Gerald Leon Worthington, and is survived by brother Jimmy Fedderly, sister Sandra (Neyl) Fedderly U' Breaslain; two children, daughter Sheila Carter Worthington, son Jon Worthington; two grandchildren; Michael Beach, Melodie Carter Kjenner, as well as six great grandchildren; Zachary Beach, Jacob, Maggie, Cason, Jason, and Kaylee Carter.

There are many loved ones who Sonya looks forward to being reunited with in the resurrection. (John 5:28 & 29)

That is God's promise to all who fall asleep in death!

A Memorial Service and Celebration of Sonya's Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1905 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Life has dealt a heavy blow to the Worthington family with the passing of Sonya. As her children, Jon and Sheila are faced with the painful task of honoring her wishes while navigating the unexpected financial burden of cremation costs. Sonya chose Fitzgerald Funeral Home because of the compassionate care her son, Gerry received there, and it's crucial that they fulfill her wishes during this difficult time.

Please consider donating and sharing their GoFundMe page with others. Every bit helps, and it would mean the world to Jon and Sheila to have their mother remembered as she wished.

Thank you for your kindness and support.
