Sophia Renee Sandoval January 31, 2020 – May 3, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, niece, granddaughter, and cousin, Sophia Renee Sandoval, who went to be glorified with our Heavenly Father on May 3, 2025, at the tender age of 5.
Born on January 31, 2020, to her loving mother Salina Yvette Sandoval, Sophia brought endless joy, laughter, and light to all who knew her. She was a brilliant soul-loving, compassionate, creative, and wise beyond her years. True to the meaning of her name, wisdom, Sophia had a unique gift for seeing others. Her hugs always came at just the right time. Her bright eyes and precious smile could chase away even the darkest day.
Sophia loved making new friends, attending church, dancing with abandon, and sharing late-night crafting parties with her mom. She was eloquent and observant-never missing a moment to help. "You're already doing so much, Mommy," she'd say, wanting to brush her mother's hair at night or sneak into the makeup bag to be just like Mom. She noticed everything. She gave everything.
She adored her brother Noah, who cherished her company during video games, nerf wars, and sports. He often marveled aloud, "Mom Sophia is just so beautiful." She came into his life at the right time-when he needed her most.
Sophia was also deeply loved by her devoted Uncle Donald, her doting aunts, and her grandparents Renee and Don Traynham, who looked forward to retirement simply to spend more time with their grandchildren. The memories they created together-at the library, the museum, the park-will forever be treasured.
Sophia's life was brief, but her impact was immeasurable. She lives in our hearts, in our memories, and in everything we do. She was our everything. And now, she is everywhere.
To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8)-where sin and sorrow are no more, and where we long to be reconciled, dancing with her again for eternity.
A celebration of Sophia's life will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Home – Denbigh Chapel in Newport News on May 17, 2025, beginning with a 10:00am viewing, an 11:30am service, and 1:00pm burial at Peninsula Memorial Park.
