Stanford Elam Obituary

Stanford was born on April 7, 1931, and was the son of the late Hampton and Lucy Belle (Salyers) Elam. He was a lifelong resident of Russell County, worked for many years as a carpenter, and attended Lakeview Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Justina Jill Helbert; brother, Vernon Elam; one half-sister, Ollie Mae Galliher; five half-brothers, Ernest, George L., Charlie, Willie and Bruce Elam.
Survivors are his wife of 70 years, Shirley (Osborne) Elam; three daughters, Kathleen Helbert and husband Justin of Castlewood, Linda Hackney and husband David of Mt. Carmel, Tenn., and Arlis Burke and husband Darrell of Castlewood; grandson, Jason Helbert of Bristol, Tenn.; heart-adopted grandson, Jessee Bevins of Lebanon, Va.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Grassy Creek Cemetery in Castlewood, with Roger Carter and Cuba Porter officiating.
Pallbearers will Jason Helbert, Jessee Bevins, Chris Browning, Freddie Elam, Roger Carter, and Cuba Porter.
Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Lakeview Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grassy Creek Cemetery Fund in care of Martha Steele, 946 Lower Copper Creek Road, Castlewood, Virginia 24224.
