Stefan Antis Obituary

Stefan was born in Ernsthausen, Yugoslavia and lived in Yugoslavia until about age 15 when his family moved to Austria. His family came to America as displaced persons from WWII in 1952. They were sent to New York and then to Suffolk, VA to the Rountree Dairy. He then worked 27 years for the US Government as a machinist at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and 17 years for Prince George County. Stefan was a member of Wakefield Baptist Church for many years and a deacon there for 45 years.
He is survived by his wife, Elinor Stewart Antis, whom he met and married 68 years ago in Wakefield, Va. He is survived by his children, Anna Antis Lyman (Johnny) of Wakefield, VA Stewart Lee Antis of Wakefield, VA, Dorothy Antis Deverin of Blacksburg, VA and Sarah Frances Antis of Wakefield, VA. He is survived by 8 grandchildren, John Lyman (Miki), Melissa Lynn Antis, Stefan Antis, Thomas Deverin, Jack Deverin, Katharina Wages and Ruby Wages Sadler; 7 great grandchildren, Christopher Sweeny, Aiden Antis, Carson Beale, James Lewter, Freya Sadler, Willow Sadler and Olivia Sadler, and one great-great grandson Nicholai Sweeny. He is also survived by his brothers; Joe Antis (Carolyn), Suffolk, VA and Michael Antis (Michelle), Brandon, FL and sisters; Frieda Antis Cales (Jack) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Anna Antis Bryant (Collis Lee) of Ivor, VA.
The funeral will be a graveside service only at Rocky Hock Methodist Church, 2745 White Marsh Road, Wakefield, VA. at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, to be followed by a reception at the Wakefield Baptist Church, 104 W. Church St., Wakefield at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741 or to a charity of your choice. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel is serving the family. Condolences may be registered online at RWBakerFH.com.
