Stella M. McGuire

Boardman - Stella M. McGuire, 72, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at St. Mary's Alzheimer Center in Columbiana surrounded by her loving family.

Stella was born February 5, 1952 in Cleveland, Ohio, a daughter of the late Angelo and Stella (Meckes) Paolone.

She came to the Youngstown area as a child, where she graduated from Austintown Fitch High School and attended Youngstown State University.

Stella spent 23 years serving as a Salvation Army pastor, along with Doug, throughout Northeastern Ohio, undeniably impacting those around her. She retired in 2017. During this time, she especially enjoyed working with children and teens with timbrels, music, drama, and other youth activities. Stella also helped with Music and Arts Camp at Camp NEOSA and served as the Divisional Timbrel Leader.  She considered her missionary trips to Nicaragua and Guatemala as personal highlights.

Stella’s most cherished roles were that of wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Her favorite places to be were next to Doug in the audience of a performance, on the sidelines of a game, or relaxing at the ocean with her children and grandchildren. She served as room mother, PTA president, and team mom.

Stella is survived by her husband of 53 years, Douglas R. McGuire Sr., whom she married on December 6, 1970: five children, Stella "Candi" McGuire of Cleveland, OH, Douglas (Amy) McGuire Jr. of West Palm Beach, FL, Erricka (Winston) Grays of Solon, OH, Nicole (Michael) Cracraft of Boardman, OH, and Giana McGuire of Indianapolis, IN; six grandchildren, Winston Grays III, Douglas McGuire III, Gabrielle McGuire, Caleb McGuire, Maxwell Cracraft, and Katelyn Cracraft; two brothers, Anthony Paolone of Boardman, OH, and his son Matthew, and Samuel Paolone of Youngstown; and her sister, Rosemary Gallagher of Struthers, OH.

Besides her parents, Stella was preceded in death by a sister, Doris McIntire; and sister-in-law, Karen Paolone; three nephews and a niece.

Family and friends may call on Sunday, March 24, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Monday, March 25, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street in Boardman. There will be a funeral service celebrating Stella's life at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Cornell Jordan and Pastor Mike Byus officiating. Interment will take place at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown.
