Grayson Funeral Home - CharlestownStephanie Lee Burkhead, born on the 14th of August 1970 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, embarked on her final journey on the 20th of August 2025, in the comforting embrace of her loving family at her home in New Albany. Renowned for her exuberant spirit, Stephanie was a vibrant soul whose presence illuminated the lives of those around her.
A devoted early childhood development care provider, Stephanie later transitioned into the realm of home health care, where she touched countless lives with compassion and dedication. Her professional journey was marked by a profound commitment to nurturing others, reflecting her innate desire to support and uplift her community.
Stephanie’s personality was as radiant as the sun; she was a true firecracker, exuding an outgoing charm that drew people towards her. A lover of life's simple pleasures, she found joy in antiquing, yard sales, and spirited karaoke sessions that filled the air with laughter and song. Her affinity for long rides in the countryside exemplified her adventurous spirit, inviting those around her to indulge in life's picturesque moments. As a passionate supporter of Indiana University basketball, she reveled in the camaraderie it brought to her family and friends, delighting in the collective joy of victory and the solace of shared defeat.
Her love for Halloween revealed her whimsical side, embodying the joy and magic of the season as she transformed the ordinary into something extraordinary each year. Notably, she cherished the time spent with her granddaughters—Malia, Miya, and Madelina—ensuring their lives were filled with delightful adventures, guidance, and love. Each day, she made it a ritual to call her daughters, Marissa Machado and Kennedy Ramirez, ensuring that no moment of connection was lost and that she remained a steadfast anchor in their lives.
Stephanie is survived by her devoted husband, William Burkhead, her loving daughters, Marissa (and fiancé Shane Crick) and Kennedy (married to Jorge Ramirez), her treasured granddaughters, and a host of other loved ones too numerous to count. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Rusty and Patty Ward, whose legacy of love and nurturing laid the foundation for the extraordinary woman Stephanie became.
A visitation to honor her vibrant life will take place on Monday, the 25th of August 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, Indiana. A gathering where her family and friends will come together to celebrate the indelible mark Stephanie left in their hearts, reflections of her spirited nature, and the love she so freely shared with all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we bid farewell to Stephanie Lee Burkhead, let us carry forth her unyielding spirit, her laughter, and the warmth she brought into our lives, forever reminding us to embrace each day with joy, connection, and love.
