Obituary for Stephanie Lynne Hinnant McMillan
Stephanie Lynne Hinnant-McMillan, age 57, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and dedicated educator, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2024, in Vancouver, Washington.
Born on September 16, 1967, in Newport News, Virginia, Stephanie was the daughter of Dana F Hinnant and Linda F. Allen.
A proud graduate of Farragut High School in Farragut, Tennessee, Stephanie went on to pursue her passion for education. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee and later, in 1998 earned her master's degree in special education from National University. Stephanie received her administrative license from Concordia University in 2014. Stephanie dedicated her life to teaching, particularly as a special education teacher. Her compassion and unwavering commitment to her students made her a cherished figure in the lives of many, and she earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues and peers. Outside of teaching, Stephanie had a love for collegiate sports and was dedicated to the Tennessee Volunteers. Locally, she adopted the Oregon Ducks. Stephanie carried an unconditional love towards animals, which led her to a continuous house full of pets. At the time of passing Stephanie had 2 dogs, Niko and Daisy as well as 2 cats, Ace and Kitsa.
Stephanie had a gift for making others feel welcome and loved. She enjoyed entertaining, spending quality time with friends and family, and creating memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William Byerly Allen Sr, Helen F. Allen, Felton Hinnant and Dorothy Hinnant. Stephanie is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, John McMillan; her daughter, Byerly McMillan; and her cherished grandchildren, Oakley and Olivia McMillan. She is also survived by her mother, Linda F. Allen and father Dana F. Hinnant as well as stepmother Gleneva Hinnant, her sister, Melissa Hinnant Bell and wife Donna Bell; as well as her nieces, Ashley and Brandi Kirby, and nephew, Hunter French.
Memorial Services:
West Coast: A service for family and friends on the West Coast will be held on January 11, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 NE 112th Ave, Vancouver, WA 98684. The family will receive friends following the service from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
East Coast: A graveside service will be held on January 31, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, VA 23606. Family and friends are invited to gather at Huntington Mennonite Church following the service from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Stephanie's warm heart, contagious laughter, and unshakable devotion to those she loved will be deeply missed but her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

Stephanie was our neighbor, along with John and Linda. She and Linda were clients of mine at the salon I worked at.
Stephanie and John have been friendly, warm and welcoming neighbors.
Stephanie was an outgoing, friendly and generous person. It is a pleasure to live near the McMillan family.
