Stephen W. Fosdick, 82, of Medfield, Massachusetts died November 19th at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband to Nancy R. Fosdick of 55 years, father to Amy E. Fosdick and Sarah F. Cohen, father-in-law to Scott A. Cohen, grandfather to Maxwell and Julia Cohen, brother to Virginia (Ginny) Stevenson of California and "Uncle Steve" to many nieces and nephews.
Born in Kew Gardens, Queens, NY, he served as a lieutenant the U.S. Army for four years. He received a Bachelor of Science at St. Lawrence University. Driven by curiosity and ingenious problem solving, Stephen enjoyed his career in industrial sales. He was also interested in many hobbies including engineering, astronomy, sailing, fishing and canoeing. He was an early adopter of computers and computer programming. He was known for his entrepreneurial spirit, starting his first company in 1974, a small machine shop in Medfield. In recent years, he enjoyed volunteering at the Medfield Senior Center, watering the rose bushes and delivering meals on wheels. He introduced a "bucket of joy" during the pandemic to stay connected with his friends.
Stephen's greatest joy in life was his wife Nancy. They met in 1965 when they both worked at Hamilton Standard in Connecticut. They married in Suffield CT and spent a few years in the suburbs of Chicago. When they returned to Massachusetts in 1973, they lived in Millis for several years before moving to their home in Medfield where they lived for four decades.
Until his last days Stephen marveled at and relished the New England seasons. Holidays with family were a special time where he always shared a newly perfected recipe, most recently the best cup of hot chocolate.
Stephen will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 11th, 2025 at the Church of the Advent in Medfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to MDS Foundation: https://www.mds-foundation.org here https://secure.qgiv.com/for/myelodysplasticsyndromesfoundationinc.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. Steve was most unique and he was someone who always greeted you with his big smile. He had the biggest heart of anyone I knew. When I was moving into my newly purchased cottage in Natick, he and Nancy were there for me. I remember the day I closed on my house and I got up with a terrible cold. When I finished there I drove directly to my cottage expecting to begin pulling up the old carpeting. When I arrived I found Steve and Nancy waiting for me in the driveway. I had no idea they were planning to help. When they saw how bad I looked Steve insisted that I go home and that he and Nancy would finish the job. Steve you were such a dear friend to so many of us; may you rest in peace.
