Stephen Justin Kelly, affectionately known as Stevie, passed on to eternal life peacefully in the arms of his wife Carla, son Steve and daughter Briana on May 25, 2025.
Steve was the first child born to the late Catherine Lavin Kelly and the late Stephen Justin Kelly in Weymouth, Massachusetts on March 24, 1953.
He soon became the older brother affectionately known as Stevie to his four siblings.
Steve grew up in Weymouth, Massachusetts where he graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1971. He furthered his education at the University of Maine where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree, Magna Cum Laude, class of 1975.
After receiving his degree, he returned to his home town of Weymouth where he always joked about landing a teaching position at Sacred Heart High School and pulling a "Welcome back Kotter" (1970 sitcom) He would chuckle about teaching at the same high school that he graduated from. He held positions as Dean of Discipline, Vice-Principal in charge of discipline, and Social Studies Department chairman. Very frequently, he would be recognized by one of his former students while out and about and stories and laughter would ensue of their past while catching up on their current lives. Steve developed an interest in his local community and government and embarked on running for the Redevelopment Authority. In 1978, he won the Weymouth town wide election and he was appointed to the Redevelopment Authority where he would invest his time in strategic planning to transform areas in his community. In 2000, while Steve was an administrator in East Bridgewater, he was elected President of the Bridgewater Rotary Club District 7950 where he would served until 2001 working with the members on promoting community projects.
After teaching, Steve began his career in health care where he would serve for many years as a Long Term Care Administrator. He worked endlessly with his staff, elders and with the Department of Public Health to ensure that the highest quality of care was the only standard of care for all elders. He had enjoyed enormous respect from all that walked along side of him during his health care career.
Steve's greatest joy and source of pride was his family. He met Carla Lombard, the love of his life, in Plymouth where they worked together. On Christmas day, Steve proposed to Carla during an outing to Duxbury Beach and they were married in a beautiful ceremony on June 1, 1985. He was blessed with two children, Stephen Justin Kelly in 1986 and Briana Kelly in 1990. Steve loved being a dad and devoted his life to nurturing his children. He took great pride in sharing with his children his values of lifelong learning, reading, compassion and beauty in the world, civic engagement and dedicated hard work. He never missed a chance to support his kids at ballgames, track meets, and band concerts. He was always ready to come home after work and help with homework and give advice on projects. Over the years, Steve and his family created countless happy memories while exploring New England's nature and cities. Steve especially looked forward to the yearly family vacation at Pea Porridge Pond in New Hampshire's white mountains where he enjoyed the wildlife, crisp fresh air and the calls of the loons. Steve will always be remembered as a husband and father who was humble, present, loving and selfless.
Steve will forever remain in the hearts of his brothers and sisters, Paul Kelly and his wife Pamela Kelly of
Carver, Massachusetts, Susan Kelly and her husband Peter Schuler of Westwood, Massachusetts, Robert Kelly and his wife Debora Kelly of Chelmsford, Massachusetts and Joanne Kelly and her husband Joseph Cerqueira of Weymouth Massachusetts. He will be sorely missed by Carla's brothers and sisters who were blessed to have him in their lives, Janet Harrison and her husband David of Bedford, NH, John Lombard and his wife Melanie of Fitchburg, MA, Christopher Lombard and his wife Karen of Crossville, Tennessee and Robin Monty and her husband of Goffstown, NH, nieces, nephews, and and countless friends and colleagues.
