Stephen Anthony Ougel, 70, of Liberty, MS passed away on June 16, 2025 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA surrounded by his loving family.
A visitation will be held Thursday, June 19, 2025 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Liberty, MS from 10 AM until services at 12 PM. Burial will be at Blalock Cemetery.
Stephen was born on June 8, 1955 in Galliano, LA to the late Rudolph Ougel Sr. and Edia Pitre Ougel. He was a talented artist and known for his model ship building, paintings, and wind chimes. His artwork is spread throughout Amite County and other states. He enjoyed playing the French accordion. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Rudolph "Rudy" Ougel, Jr., Chester Ougel, and Allan Ougel; and brother-in-law Charles Maurice Ross.
He is survived by his loving wife of 22 happy years Sharon Ross Ougel; his five children Roxanne Curole (Mathew), Nicolas Ougel (Dee), Stephanie Spears (Max), Walter DuVernay (Melinda), and Scott McGowan (Misty); his seven grandchildren Lindsey Curole, Leslie Curole, Ross Spears (Aubrey), Jordan Porter (Stephen), Micah McGowan, Macey Bess (Ryan), and Daxton DuVernay; seven great-grandchildren Marlee Curole, Nola Perry, Keller Porter, Murphy Porter, Mila Bess, Eli Bess, and Layla Bess; two sisters Diana Folse and Linda Ellender; three sisters-in-laws Jeanette Ougel, Shirley Ougel, Merita Ross; his brother-in-law Darrell S. Ross (Ronda); a special nephew Charles A. Ross; his beloved father figure Donald Duet and his daughters Donna and Rhonda; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Nicolas Ougel, Mathew Curole, Walter DuVernay, Scott McGowan, Stephen Porter, and Max Spears. Honorary Pallbearers will be Donald Duet, Ronald Madere, Russ Richey, Bert Blalock, and Merrill Blalock.
