Stephen "Steve" Poniatowski, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on June 12, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on December 6, 1954, in Bay City, Michigan, Steve's life was a testament to the strength and warmth of his spirit. He departed this world in Auburn, Michigan, surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of joy and resilience.
Steve grew up in Pinconning and proudly graduated from Pinconning High School in 1973. His work ethic and dedication were evident early on and carried him through a successful career. He retired from General Motors (Delphi) in 2006, after 34 years of committed service. Steve's professional life was marked by the same loyalty and passion that he brought to every aspect of his existence.
On November 7, 1981, Steve married the love of his life, Lisa (Bennett) Poniatowski, at St. Michael's Church. Together for 42 years, they built a life filled with laughter, adventure, and an abundance of love. Steve was a devoted father to his daughters, Aaron and Chrissy Poniatowski, and his son, Alex Poniatowski. He took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to James VanDusen, Gage and Camerin Scherzer, and Addilyn Poniatowski.
Steve's love extended to his siblings, who will miss him dearly: Agnes Erickson, Madeline Salgat,, and his brother, Leonard (Dale) Poniatowski. He was a respected brother-in-law to Bill (Cindy) Bennett, Marcus (Linda) Bennett, Tim Bennett, Dan (Mashelle) Bennett, and Ted (Cindi) Bennett, as well as sister-in-laws Barbara Poniatowski and Cindy (Dave) Charbonneau-Wright. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Jane (Rydzewski) Poniatowski, his brother Robert Poniatowski, and brother-in-law, Paul Salgat.
Steve's interests were as vast as his heart. He relished spending time with his children and grandchildren, whether it was on the back of his Harley, hunting, or fishing. Perch fishing was a particular favorite, and he often shared stories of his catches with anyone who would listen. Steve's love for travel took him from the tranquility of the Upper Peninsula to the sunny shores of Florida. He had a passion for driving his cars and trucks, especially in the snow, where his adventurous spirit shone brightest.
Those who knew Steve will remember him as a loving man, always ready with a helping hand. His adventurous nature inspired many, and his "Love" of music, both classic Rock & Roll and Country, was a favorite of his, as he was always ready with a trivia question!
As we say goodbye to Stephen Poniatowski, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest. His legacy of love, adventure, and laughter will continue to echo through the lives of those he touched. Steve's story is not one of sorrow but of a life well-lived and well-loved. He will be remembered always for the joy he brought into the world and the strength of his spirit that remains an inspiration to us all.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home - Pinconning Chapel with Kathy Bersano presiding. The family will greet friends and family on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 2:00 pm until the time of service.
