Born to Carol and Brian Saine in South Bend, Indiana, Stephen was a lifelong resident of Mishawaka and recently resided with family in Bay Village, Ohio. Preceded in death by his loving parents, Stephen is survived by his three brothers, Christian (Andrea Wilson) of Bay Village, Ohio; Peter (J. Alex Sanger) of Chicago, Illinois; and Jonathan of Barrington, Rhode Island; seven nieces and nephews, Mitchell, Beck, Live, Camille, Annabel, William and Spencer; and many other extended family members that cared for and loved Stephen very much.
Stephen graduated from Penn High School in 1999, and participated in many activities and sports, including Special Olympics power-lifting, bowling, softball, and basketball. Stephen was especially proud of participating in the 1999 International Special Olympics Games in power- lifting and loved to talk about his gold medals and demonstrate his impressive squat or bench press technique (which allowed him to lift over 250 pounds!). Stephen was an ardent Notre Dame and Chicago sports fan - especially the Cubs, a love he shared with his father; his collection of ND and Cubs team wear and memorabilia is very impressive.
Stephen was a hard worker for over 26 years at McDonald Physical Therapy in Mishawaka. The amazing love and generosity of his co-workers there truly enriched his life. He loved the routine of getting up and going to work, and on most weekends, he couldn't wait to get up for work bright and early Monday morning. It wasn't the early mornings that he loved though - it was the wonderful co-workers and patients who always made him feel welcome, needed, and truly special.
Stephen was baptized at and was a lifelong member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in South Bend, attending Sunday School, participating in the annual Santa Lucia festival, and ushering for many years.
Stephen lived in a small group home in Mishawaka and developed close and loving friendships with his roommates and house managers. The family is especially grateful to all of the Logan Center staff that provided Stephen with a loving home, especially after our parents passed away.
Stephen was loved by his family, friends, and all who met him. He had smiles and hugs for everyone, and was always interested in how someone was doing, and would often ask "How's your mother?" or similar questions. He loved to joke and tease (but not be teased back!) and would often roll his eyes or say "gross!" if you were a Cardinals, Yankees, or IU fan.
Stephen was an inspiration to all of us. Not only because he was so joyful and loving and lived with laughter and exuberance, but as an example that if you love unconditionally, work hard, do your best, and laugh and have fun while you are doing it. then you will make wonderful friends and life will be pretty good. We will miss you so much Stephen.
A memorial service and a reception will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 225 Haney Ave, South Bend, IN at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024. A private interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stephen's name to LOGAN Center, 2505 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, Indiana, 46615. Online condolences may be left for the Saine family at www.paImerfuneraIhomes.com.

Stephen your dad whom I worked for in the 90's was soo proud of you. He would often bring in drawings and tell us gals what you were up to.
Later I remember you working with us in the office.
Years went by and there you were at McDonald's physical therapy when I was there after my knee replacement.
I'M sure mom and dad greeted you in heaven .
