SALTSMAN
Stephen V. Saltsman, 81, of London, died Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Dublin Methodist Hospital in the arms of his wife, surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 5, 1942, in Portsmouth, Ohio, he was a son of Robert L. Saltsman and Margaret Jean (Flannigan) Saltsman.
Steve graduated high school and went on to attend George Washington University. He began his career in 1960 with the F.B.I. in Washington D.C., the Ohio B.C.I. in 1965, and the Madison County Sheriff's Auxiliary in 1966. He became a full-time deputy in 1972, and later became the Madison County Sheriff in 1980, where he remained until retirement in 2004.
He loved the community of London to which he continually served as part of the London Rotary Club, Buckeye State Sheriff's Association, Madison County Sheriff's Auxiliary, Madison County Senior Center Board Member, member and past chair of the Madison County Republican Central Committee, and a former board member of the Madison County Board of Elections. Steve was also a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Father Reidy Council# 1786.
Steve leaves behind his devoted wife of 62 years Donna (Gahm) Saltsman; children Teresa (Chris) Ames, Patricia (Jay) Olson, and Stephen V. Saltsman (Suzanne Jones); grandchildren Elizabeth Zamara, Josh (Kristina) Clifton, Zach (Danielle) Olson, Allie Olson, Elena Saltsman, and Claire Saltsman; great-grandchildren Madison Miller, Mavrik Clifton, Aria Mason, Maren Clifton, Crosley Olson, and Hayes Olson; brothers Bobby (Suzette) Saltsman and Pete Saltsman; in-laws Pam Saltsman, Mary Saltsman, Elaine (Lonnie) Brown, Rita K. Gahm, Judy (Russ) Kelley, Linda (Bill) Mark, Rita (Dave) Grimm; many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including special cousin Ruthann Figlestahler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Tom Saltsman and Gus Saltsman; mother-in-law Pauline Binz, father-in-law Vancil Gahm; brothers-in-law Gary (Joyce) Gahm and Larry Gahm, sister-in-law Patricia Gahm.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, February 9, 2024, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM in the Froning Center of St. Patrick School, 226 Elm Street, London, Ohio 43140. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 10, 2024, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 61 South Union Street, London, Ohio 43140, with Father Anthony Dinovo officiating and with Father Mark Ghiloni concelebrating. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery.
