It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen Brahn Sherrill, a beloved member of the Greenville community. Born on May 13, 1949, in Greenville, Stephen graduated from Greenville High School in the Class of 1967 before going on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Presbyterian College in 1971.
Throughout his 50-year career at the Schmidt Group (the former Schmidt Manufacturing), Stephen exemplified dedication and hard work, earning the respect of his colleagues and leaving a lasting impact on the manufacturing industry. Despite his battle with cancer, he continued to lead by example, displaying unwavering courage and determination until his passing on May 29, 2024.
Stephen's love of the outdoors, especially playing basketball and spending time in his garden, reflected his passion for life and appreciation of nature. Whether it was minor plumbing, automotive care, or small electrical repairs, Stephen valued fixing things on his own and rarely engaged professional help. He possessed a technical mind and whenever the need arose, would showcase his practical skills and ingenuity.
A man of faith, Stephen was a cherished member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church, where his kindness and generosity touched the lives of many.
He is survived by his mother, Ethel Sherrill; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy Coster and Steve Barbrey; a niece, Kristen Coster and a great-nephew, Easton Sartain.
He was preceded in death by his beloved father, George Thomas Sherrill.
Stephen will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of calling him friend.
Funeral services will be held in the near future to celebrate Stephen's life and legacy. Visitation with the Sherrill Family will be held Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:15 p.m. at St. Matthew United Methodist Church followed by a funeral service beginning at 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers will be Dick Carson, Bert Weathers, Pat Miller, Craig Marchant, Rex Osteen, and Ben Reed. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations are encouraged and may be sent to St. Matthew United Methodist Church, 107 Cleveland St., Greenville, SC 29601.

I met Steve years ago playing basketball on weeknights in a local Presbyterian church gym. He was a real competitor who understood we were all there to play a game, get a lot of exercise, and have fun. I valued his friendship and will miss him.
