Dr. Arthur Steve Baker, 69, of
Longview, TX, passed away on May 31, 2025. Born on September 27, 1955 in Barberton, OH, he was a devoted husband to Lisa and father to David and Annabeth. His absence will be profoundly felt by family and friends.
Steve graduated from Forest Park High School in Beaumont, Tx in 1974. He attended Baylor University where he majored in Chemistry, was a member of the SAE fraternity, and team member of Bear Downs bike racing team. After Baylor, he was accepted to UTHSC San Antonio Dental School where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1982 and practiced dentistry for 31 years in Longview. During his years in dentistry, he made multiple trips to Matamoros, MX and the jungles of Belize to do missionary dentistry.
Steve met Lisa at Baylor University and after 4 years of dating they were married for 45 years. Their marriage was filled with love, laughter, practical jokes, wonderful friends, and many activities with their children. He was active as a youth coach for soccer, basketball, and baseball until his kids outgrew his expertise and then he was a vocal parent on the sideline.
Longview was very good to the Baker family and Steve was an active community member. He was a member of the Longview Greggton Rotary where he made many good friends and helped with hosting foreign exchange students, the Rodeo, and many other projects. As a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, he headed up the Men of Trinity group which hosted hundreds yearly at a community fish fry, cooked a monthly breakfast for the church, and served as a lay Eucharistic minister. He also served for 20 years on the board of the Tryon Water District. Steve was a 30 year volunteer with the Great Texas Balloon Race and last year was awarded the Spirit of Rudy Bresie Award for his dedication and service.
Steve is survived by his wife, Lisa Chiles Baker, son, Arthur David Baker of Longview, daughter, Annabeth Lee Baker of Longview, sister, Mary Baker Harrison of Longview, and brother, William Warren Baker of Pensacola, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur George and Patricia Steves Baker.
Steve Baker was a fighter and battled his Parkinson's without complaint for 27 years. His example of how to handle adversity in life was an inspiration to all who knew him and we will celebrate his life at Trinity Episcopal Church
Longview, TX on June 10, 2:00pm and with a reception, after the service, in the Parish Hall.
