Steve Jones Obituary

Steve Jones, born on September 6, 1950, as Cary Steven Jones, in Springfield, TN, peacefully passed away at home on January 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Steve's legacy of love and dedication will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

Steve dedicated many years of his life to AT&T, beginning his career as a cable repairman and ultimately moving into management. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident throughout his professional journey, reflecting a strong sense of pride in all he accomplished.

A proud graduate of Greenbrier High School, Class of 1968, Steve also served honorably in the United States Navy, showcasing his dedication to his country. His adventurous spirit shined through his numerous hobbies and interests. He loved playing golf at Oak Hills Golf Course, engaging in spirited card games and darts, and cherished his truck. One of his favorite pastimes was spending quality time with his father, watching horse racing together.

Far beyond his professional and recreational pursuits, Steve was a deeply impactful figure in the lives of his family and friends. His daughter, Kara, fondly remembers her father as a steadfast softball coach, always an encouraging influence in the lives of young women. His son, Kyle, reminisced about long conversations covering topics ranging from their favorite sports teams, the Tennessee Volunteers and Pittsburgh Steelers, to life's many subjects.

Steve shared many beautiful memories with his beloved wife, Deborah "Debi" Jones, with whom he spent 52 wonderful years. One of their treasured adventures involved taking the Harley and riding across the country for six weeks, an experience that perfectly encapsulated their zest for life together. His family was always his proudest accomplishment, and he cherished the bond he fostered with them and his numerous friends through the years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Debi; children, Kyle (Amber) Jones and Kara Jones Kalkstein; devoted niece, Tammy Huddleston; grandchildren, Kylie Jones, Kori Jones, Katelyn Eades, Benjamin Kalkstein, Kelcie Jones, Samuel Kalkstein, and Kolton Jones.

Steve's passing marks the loss of a remarkable man characterized by his quick wit, humor, handsomeness, and an unwavering loyalty to his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ora Lee Jones; his sister, Gail Farrell; and his honorary brother and best friend, Charles "Charlie" Bellar.

A visitation celebrating Steve's life will be held on January 24, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Springfield Memorial Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center, located at 4005 Memorial Blvd, Springfield, TN 37172 with Pastor Jason Jones officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Birdwell, the late Jimmy Grubbs, Donn Stroud, Noah Alley, David Graham, and Burton Cooksey.

 

Steve Jones will always be remembered not only for his contributions to his field and his passions but for the love and warmth he shared with those fortunate enough to be part of his life. His spirit will continue to live on in the memories and stories shared by his family and friends.
