It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steve Oliver, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all who knew him. He left this world on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, knowledge, kindness, and generosity.
Steve was a man with a big heart. He never met a stranger, and his warmth and laughter could light up any room. His greatest joy in life was his family, whom he loved fiercely and unconditionally.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents Tommy and Cora Oliver, and his brother Richard Oliver.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Deborah Hucks Oliver; children, Ginger and Randy Wilson, Emellee Oliver and Holden McMillian, and Taylor Oliver; Claudia Gowens, loving friend and mother of his children. He is also survived by his stepchildren he embraced as his own: Steven and Jessica Alsobrook, Gavin and Linsey Hucks, Spencer Hucks, and Emily Matthews; his grandchildren, Xander Wilson, Hayden McMillian, Brentley and Brooke Matthews, and Luke and Harper Alsobrook who were the lights of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them. Steve also leaves behind his brothers, Tracy Oliver, Gary Oliver, and Kerry Oliver, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss him beyond words.
Steve was known for his unwavering kindness and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, no matter the circumstances. His compassion knew no bounds, and he dedicated his life to supporting others, often putting their needs before his own. Whether it was a friend, family member, neighbor, or stranger, Steve was the first to offer assistance and encouragement. He was truly a selfless person.
He had a deep love and compassion for the funeral profession, serving the Dalton community with dedication for over 35 years. He spent more than 20 years helping families at Love Funeral Home and later completed his career at Julian Peeples Funeral Home, where he continued to provide comfort and support to those in need.
A celebration of Steve's life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 11:00am at the Rocky Face Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Noel Caldwell officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, March 21, 2025, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm.
Burial will be in Dunagan Cemetery.
In honor of his generous spirit, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Kidney Foundation or that you simply take a moment to share kindness and grace with someone today-just as he always did.
Rest easy, Daddy/Steve/Pops. You are deeply loved, and the wisdom, love, and kindness you shared will live on through all of us.
