It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Steve Thornton on November 14, 2024, he was 69 years old.
Steve was a deeply beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor. He will forever be remembered for his love of family, dedication of his work and devotion to his grandchildren who called him PawPaw. Steve was a retired maintenance engineer and manager who loved fishing, caring for animals, spending time with family and staying active outdoors on the farm he resided on in Minooka, Illinois with his loving wife, of 50 years on August 27, 2025.
Born on June 15, 1955 in Matoaka, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Alonzo Edgar Thornton and Hazel McAbe.
Steve is survived by his beautiful wife, Maria Lilia of Minooka, IL, their son, Steve Jr and Kindyl of Urbandale, IA, sugarplum daughter, Tanya Nicole of Naperville, IL, adored grandchildren, Noah Mateusz Stawiarski, Naomi Tanya Stawiarski, Wyatt Eric Hedblom and Wyla Lily Hedblom, fathers of grandchildren, Mateusz Stawiarski and Eric Hedblom, brothers, Billy of Matoaka, WV, James Murphy and wife Sherry of Lashmeet, WV, Douglas and wife Sheila of Beason, WV, sisters, Geraldine Reynolds of NC, Sue Ross and husband Anthony of Princeton, WV, Connie Linkous and husband Herman of Bluefield, WV and several loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Butch, Marvin and Dwayne, sisters, Hazel Smith and Kathy Davis.
Steve will be dearly missed. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
