On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, Steven E. Appleby, Sr., 72, of Elizabethtown, PA, passed away at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Ellen (Hoffarth) Appleby for the past 5 years and husband of the late Debra A. (Clark) Appleby for 44 years before her passing in 2017. Steve was born April 2, 1953, in York, PA. He was the son of the late Henry and Gloria (Appleby) Ehrhart.
Steve attended Central York High School and graduated from York County School of Technology in 1971. He worked over 20 years at KSG Manley Valves. He was also a part-time EMT for Springettsbury Township and volunteer EMT and Ambulance Captain for the Grantley Fire Company. Steve was a member of Hershey Free Church, where he enjoyed being in the Bible and LOFT Groups. He was also a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Red Lion. In his spare time, he enjoyed everything outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, and camping. He looked forward to traveling around the United States and Canada. When he wasn't traveling, he could be found at home planning or completing woodworking and painting projects. He loved hanging out with his grandkids and watching them play golf, hanging out in the basement, and taking them to the Adventure Sports Park.
Steve is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Angelia L. Goins and husband, Trevor; son, Steven E. Appleby, Jr. and wife, Leslie; two grandchildren, Jacob and Connor Appleby; step-children, Michael Stephens and wife, Lesley, and Jeffrey Stephens; and three step-grandchildren, Kasey Reece, Ellie and Lily Stephens; two brothers, and one sister. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 28 at 5:00 pm with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 pm at Geiple-Predicce Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock, PA. Interment will be private at the family's convenience.
