Steven P. Duffy, age 70, of Indianola, IA, left this world for his next adventure on March 28, 2025, after a battle with esophageal cancer.
Steve's life motto was "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." He lived this professionally and personally through his support of others going through their own struggles.
Steve graduated from Webster City High School in 1973 and the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Sociology. He furthered his career and obtained his degree in nursing. He worked in human services as a registered nurse and then went on to achieve certification as an alcohol and drug counselor (CADC).
Steve's interests were history, especially WWII history, and anything to do with the great outdoors. His love of learning was lifelong and primarily self taught. He was especially adept at building fences, constructing hugelkultr gardens, and other miscellaneous projects on their properties. He enjoyed day trips and vacations with his wife and often with his sister-in-law, Kristine and husband, Dan Lowe. Overnight trips were made possible by his sister ("Auntie Mo's Critter Sitter"), who cared for the multitude of rescue animals that resided with him over the years.
When talking with Steve, you could always learn random facts of interest, prefaced with "Did you know " He was proud of his Irish heritage; a stranger was just a friend not yet met.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Jill, son Luke Graham (Alison) and granddaughters (Jesse and Daisy), mother Geraldine Duffy, sister Maureen "Mo" (Jeff) Warford, brother Marty Duffy and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Martin, and brothers Mark and Kevin.
Celebration of Life will be April 5, 2024, 1-3 pm at The Cottage, 201 East Salem Avenue, Indianola, IA. Memorials may be sent to the care of the family.

I received the news of Steve's passing with a heavy heart. We were high school friends are had many an outing at ISU while attending classes there.

Steve and I both went on to become RN's. I know he worked at the Hamilton Couny Hospital just a block away from my parents Ohio Street home. BRENDA & I fell out of touch upon my return to the military in the early 80s. We always considered him a friend and will continue to pray for his soul.

Steve was a great person to me when I first started in NA I went to the Indy meeting and he was ALWAYS there with a smile and a hug. He helped so many in and out of the program. He will be sorely missed. Condolences to his wife, Jill and all who loved him.
