Steven Lynn Hass, 67, passed away peacefully at the Veterans Hospital in
Tomah, WI on December 26th, 2025 with family at his side. Born November 28, 1958 in Milwaukee, Steve was known for his sharp sense of humor, pride in his family and insatiable sweet tooth.
Steve is survived by his wife, Monica Hass; his daughters, Heather (Sean) Hass and Katelynn (Marty) Morrison; grandchildren, Theodor, Sawyer, Clementine, Genevieve, and Grant; siblings, Sharon (Pat) North, Dennis (Kimmy) Hass, Kevin (Sandy) Hass, and Cindy (Dave) Peterson; nieces and nephews, Christina Hass, Steffanie Hass, Steven (Chloe) Hass, Zach (Bria) Jansen, Wesley Jansen, Nicole Jansen, Bradley (Mary) Jansen, and Eric North; father-in-law, James Steen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Audrey Hass, and his mother-in-law, Ginny Steen.
Steve's early years were spent with his parents and siblings in Milwaukee. He loved sports from an early age. As a kid, he was a big Brewers fan and rode his bike to Miller Park to watch games. He had a collection of autographed baseballs that were priceless mementos of his childhood.
Steve served in the United States Navy from 1976 - 1980. His service took him to many parts of the world including Peru, Venezuela, Brazil, Italy, Greece, and England.
In 1981, Steve married Robin Kudick. They built a life together in Coloma, until Robin passed away in 1994. Steve would continue to share memories of her throughout his life.
Steve met Monica while working together at Cardinal Floating Glass. Early on, he pointed to his belly and joked, "Just so ya know, this ain't goin' anywhere." She assured him that she loved him just how he was. They were married in 1997 and soon after, he adopted "the girls" Heather and Katelynn. He loved being a Dad and would remind them often "You two were the best things that ever happened to me." He always wanted a family and children.
They lived in Coloma where they had land and dogs and woods. They had a happy life together. Steve was a talented carpenter and built many decks throughout the years on their properties. Summers were filled with pool parties and barbecues and in the winters he pulled the girls on a sled with his three-wheeler and helped build snowmen. They eventually settled in Wisconsin Rapids, traded their pool for a hot tub and kept on grilling. Steve was happy to live closer to his best friend and brother Dennis. Their families spent many fun years celebrating milestones, holidays and boating on Lake Camelot.
Steve was in his element telling jokes and making people laugh until they couldn't breathe. He loved Elton John, would blast his songs loudly and encourage everyone to sing along. One year they won 4 tickets to see him in concert so Kimmy and Denny were able to join and were picked up by limo- this was a huge highlight for him. He enjoyed golfing, especially when his grandson, Theodor, was old enough to join him. He faithfully worked on his daily crossword puzzles until he could no longer write.
Steve spent the final year of his life at the Tomah VA Hospital. In honor of his service, Steve received a military salute. Steve will be remembered for his humor, his love of family, and how he was always ready with a joke.
