Steven Webster Hurlburt died on May 26, 2024, in Port Huron, Michigan, after battling a long illness. Born on March 3, 1949, in Sandusky, Michigan, Steve was delivered by his maternal grandfather, Dr. J.C. Webster. After losing his father Raymond Hurlburt at an early age, Steve took on responsibilities around the house and provided enormous comfort and support to his mother, Barbara McGunegle Hurlburt Sarnacki, throughout her entire life. After Barbara remarried, Steve accompanied his blended family in moves across Michigan, Iowa, and Ohio.
During the Vietnam War, Steve enlisted in the Marine Corps. Years later, he enjoyed relating his experiences, including attending a Jimi Hendrix concert in Honolulu, to his younger siblings and their children. Following his military service, Steve lived most of his life in the Lansing, Michigan area. He worked numerous jobs, mostly involving information technology, in which he was self-taught. On weekends and holidays he could be found mastering the grill at family cookouts.
Steve was passionate about hunting, photography, and political discourse. His hobbies also included exploring technology and, of course, cheering for his beloved Detroit Lions. He especially enjoyed teaching gun safety and marksmanship to his nieces and nephews. During the pandemic, he rekindled warm friendships over video calls with the "California" cousins he had grown up with, who had moved away.
Steve will be remembered most for his sharp wit, fierce independence, and bottomless curiosity - all accompanied by a warm smile. He loved spending time Up North at the family's farm in Curran, MI, where he will be laid to rest.
Steve is survived by his siblings Pamela Gascon, Wendy Hurlburt, Karla Kate, Barbara Jones, and Jeffrey Sarnacki, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rest in peace, Steve.

I am so grateful to have re-connected with Steve over Zoom these past 3 yrs. My childhood memories of growing up together as cousins in Michigan are dim, but my memories of him now will be of his kind nature, his sense of humor (even when discussing potentially polarizing topics), and his endless curiosity and resulting knowledge of so many topics! I'm sending Love to Steve and his whole family.
