Steven Darrell King, 70, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the Baptist Medical Center in Fort Smith.

Steven was the firstborn child of Darrell Brooks and Rosa Lee Self King, arriving on February 21, 1955. When he was born, they lived in Marion, Ohio. They returned to Arkansas, where two younger sisters were born. In 1966, they relocated to the Clarinda, Iowa area, where his father had taken a teaching job. Sadly, his father passed away in 1968, and the family moved to Oklahoma to be closer to his mother's family. His mother later married James Howard Falk, and the family returned to the Clarinda area and then to New Market, Iowa.

After Steven graduated from high school in New Market in 1973, he attended school to become a computer programmer. While he was studying computer programming, the family grew by one to include another sister. His first job was in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1980, he relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, but eventually returned to Omaha, where he met and married Mary Beth Tolleffson in 1985. He often wondered why he had returned to Omaha, because he hated the winters more with each passing year. He worked for several companies in Omaha until he retired from CSGI in 2019. After his retirement, he moved to Fort Smith even though it was far from his family. He always said it just felt like home.

He was preceded in death by his father, Darrell Brooks, his wife, Mary Beth, his stepfather, Howard, and an infant nephew, Jonathan Andrew Falk.

Survivors include his mother, Rosa Lee Falk; sisters, Rose Falk (Dennis), Mary Peterman (Ron), and Crystal Sherman (David); nephews and nieces, Daniel Falk (Casey), Timothy Falk (Melissa), Morgan Staashelm (Seth), Jacob Peterman, Zachary Peterman (Olivia), and Lindsey Sherman; great nieces and nephews, Jonathan Eric Falk, Georgina Falk, Sawyer and Asher Staashelm; many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his cat, Shadow.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Bluffton, Arkansas, where he will be buried beside his father.
