Steven E. "Lonky" Lanthier, 73, of Malone passed away with his family by his side on July 30, 2025 at University of Vermont Medical Center Burlington after a short illness. Services for Steven will be private. The Lanthier family has put the trust of their loved one in the care of Frary Funeral Home, Malone.

Steven was born on March 8, 1953 to the late Eddie and Elsie Lanthier formally of Tupper Lake. Steven graduated from Tupper Lake High School in June of 1970 with a regent's diploma in math and science. He furthered his education at Paul Smith's College and graduated with an Associated degree in Forestry-Surveying in June of 1972. Steven began his working career at a young age going to work for Maverick Camp in Lake Clear, New York. Once he graduated from college, he began working a career he loved saying "You'll never work a day in your life if you do what you love." From July 1972 to September of 1974, he worked for Ledgewood Properties Inc in Claremont, New Hampshire as the instrument man on the survey crew. In September on 1974 to December of 1979 he furthered his career working for Delia Construction Company in Utica, NY as a party chief on a survey crew. Steven also worked along side his father, Eddie Lanthier for Elliott Hardwood Company in Tupper Lake as a log sealer. In April 1980 he began the career, that gave him the most passion, at the Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District in Malone. He was later promoted to Soil and Water Conservation Committee Regional Coordinator with New York State until his retirement in 2009.

On June 12, 1976 he married the love of his life Jean LaVigne, also from Tupper Lake. They raised their two daughters; Sarah and Heidi. Steven was a very successful man in his working career, but nothing made him prouder than his family and the love the he gave them. Although, he loved his family with all his heart, nothing was more important to him than his three beautiful grandchildren; Alida Rae, Brayden Edward and Bay Aubryn. If he was not doing projects with his grandkids, you would find him outside riding his tractor or working around the yard. He had a great love for the beauty of the outdoors.

Steven is survived by his wife Jean Lanthier of Malone, his two daughters; Sarah (Christopher) Cox of Malone and Heidi Ashline and her fiancé Brian Doyle of Constable, his three grandchildren; Alida Rae, Brayden Edward, and Bay Aubryn, his siblings Jane Johnston of Malone and Jim (Karen) Lanthier of Fort Covington. He is predeceased by his parents Eddie and Elsie Lanthier.
