Steven L. Mullens, age 76, of Hanna City, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Steve was born in Batavia, NY on May 6, 1948 to Dorothy (Burdette) Mullens and Clarence "Ed" Mullens. He married his Bolivian princess, Angélica "Angie" Mullens on February 25, 1973.
Surviving are his children, Stephanie (Randy) Hampton of Mackinaw, IL, Antonia Mullens of Hanna City, IL, and Joshua (Anna) Mullens of Edelstein, IL; his grandsons, Benjamin Mullens, Brady Mullens, James Mullens, and John Mullens; his brothers, Bob (Sandy) Mullens, Marty (Susie) Mullens, a niece, and many nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Timothy Mullens.
Steve graduated Limestone Community High School in 1966 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During his 6 year military career, he served in Vietnam, then later at embassies all over the world in the Marine Security Guard. When he was honorably discharged, he began his career in manufacturing at Hyster Co. During his professional career, there was no job too big or too small for him to support and provide for his family including working for the Illinois Department of Corrections, but most of his career was spent as a supervisor at Caterpillar Inc. During his career, he and his wife Angie, owned and operated Hannah's Parlor in Hanna City IL for 28 years where he hosted and was a member of the local Coffee Clutch.
Steve was known for his enthusiastic spirit for any sporting activity in which his wife, children or grandchildren were currently involved. He coached local softball teams for his daughters, and was known as the Farmington Flipping Farmer as he led cheers and did front handsprings to rally the team and fans. Later, he would don a hand-colored green tuxedo to excite fans at Peoria Notre Dame for softball and football games as well as march in parades to support the PND band even long after his kids had graduated.
Steve was a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church in North Peoria. Steve willingly watched Cubs baseball with his wife, but was a Mets fan, loved playing cards, played the spoons, and was a fantastic dancer.
Visitation will be held at St. Jude’s Catholic Church on Friday, March 21, 2025 from 6:00 PM until time of recitation of the rosary at 7:45 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Jude’s on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM with an additional visitation starting at 10:00 AM. Father Patrick Henehan will officiate and graveside services with military honors will be held at 3:00 PM in Cottonwood Cemetery in rural Hanna City.
Preferred memorials in Steve's memory may be made to the Greater Peoria Honor Flight or St. Jude’s Catholic School.
