Steven Wayne Pogue passed away on August 21, 2025, at age 78.
Steve was born April 19, 1947, in Ironton, Missouri to Thomas and Lucille Pogue. He grew up in St. Louis. He was happily married to Karen for 56 years. He was fiercely proud of his two daughters, Sarah and Libby. Steve worked for McDonald Douglas/Boeing for his entire career. Steve enjoyed his work but took his true happiness from his family and friends.
Steve’s passions included bowling, softball, golf, St. Louis Blues Hockey, stamp and coin collecting, making piles of “to do” lists, and never throwing away any ink pen ever. Missouri, his lifelong home, provided him with the setting to savor freebies. He relished sharing his love of Forest Park with his kids and grandkids. The Zoo, Science Center, Blues Hockey, and Circus Flora were frequent adventures. Steve, like every good papaw, enjoyed fresh cotton candy, fudge and funnel cake best when shared with his grandkids.
Steve and Karen thoroughly enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Many nights were spent with the Vores and the Sheltons playing cards. They had recently returned from an amazing trip with the Webbs to Reno.
Steve is survived by his patient wife Karen; daughters Sarah Wurst (Walter) of O’Fallon, MO and Libby O’Brien (Chris) of St. Louis; sister Deb Land (Ron) of Logansport, LA; grandchildren, Aethan O’Brien, Samantha Wurst and Frankie O’Brien; and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Lucille Pogue, and his brother, Dwain Pogue.
