Steven Jason Rodriguez, 42, of Metuchen, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2025, with family by his side.
Jason was born in Everett, MA on April 17, 1982, and he grew up in Rockland County, NY where he met his longtime friend and future wife, Jaclyn (Jackie Marsanico). He graduated from Tappan Zee High School in 2000 and went on to study at the School of Visual Arts (SVA), ultimately receiving his BA with Honors in Computer Art from SUNY Oneonta in 2005. Jason and Jackie were married on August 21, 2010 and were blessed with two beautiful children: Owen and Olivia. He had a successful career as a graphic designer, most recently working with Otsuka Pharmaceutical Companies since 2017. A New Jersey resident of 15 years, he and his family have loved being a part of the Metuchen community since 2019.
Inheriting a love for New York sports teams from his father, Jason was a lifelong fan of the Mets, Giants, and Knicks–perhaps a glutton for punishment, but always hopeful for better outcomes next season. He was a skilled artist and delighted in seeing the creative talents of his children grow through various mediums, including Olivia's paintings and Owen's story writing. His creativity extended into the kitchen, where he would pull together family dinners on a whim–a skill he shared with his mother–and plan unique holiday meals for all to enjoy.
He enjoyed live music with family and friends, taking Owen to his first rock concert–Pearl Jam at Madison Square Garden–and seeing many other favorites over the years, including Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden, Green Day, Kings of Leon, Toadies, and Weezer. Jason had an incredible sense of humor–dry and sometimes leaning dark–finding the most unexpected moments to make a joke that left everyone laughing. He especially loved spending time with his family–watching movies, playing catch and basketball in the backyard, family outings to the local ice cream shop and arcade, and extended weekend getaways with Jackie in Kingston, NY. He was a loving and caring father, husband, son, and brother.
Jason is survived by his wife of 14 years, Jaclyn (Marsanico) Rodriguez and their two children, Owen Ramsey and Olivia Quinn; his parents, Steven and Betsy Rodriguez of Monroe, NY; his two sisters, Nicole Rodriguez and Samantha Rodriguez, both of Monroe, NY; as well as a very large and loving extended family, and many lifelong friends.
A Memorial Gathering will take place on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 1-4 p.m. with a prayer service at 2:45 p.m. at Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave., Metuchen.
