Steven Eugene Sakowski, aged 62, passed away suddenly in his home of a heart attack on July 13th, 2024. Steven was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 4th, 1962, to Eugene Sakowski and Dolores (Potocki) Sakowski. He grew up in Redford Township, Michigan with his parents and three sisters. He graduated from Thurston High School in Redford Township in 1980 and obtained a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Lawrence Technological University in 1985. He met the love of his life, Debra, the same year, and they married in 1988 in Plymouth, Michigan. Steven went on to obtain a master's degree in business at Eastern Michigan University in 1996 and worked as an engineer for Ford and then Visteon before finishing his engineering career with the United States Army in 2023.
Steven was known for his unwavering Christian faith, kindness, generosity, love of life, positive attitude, resilience, and great sense of humor. His greatest passions in life were his love for God, his family, helping others, health, fitness, and building homes. Steven dreamed of building homes from the time he was a little boy and brought that dream to life for the first time in 1988 when he and Debra built their first home on Bull Ridge in Dexter, Michigan. Steven and Debra welcomed their two children into that home in 1994 and 1997. In 2001, he built the family's second home and in 2007, he built their third home. One day while Steven was jogging, he felt called upon by God to start a business and build homes for other families. In 2014, Steven founded Bull Ridge Custom Homes and began building beautiful homes for multiple families in the Ann Arbor area. He touched many lives and made many new friends along the way, and he continued this work with vigor and passion until his final day.
Steven will be greatly missed by his wife, Debra (Sparks) Sakowski, his two children Jacob Sakowski (Maria Tortorici) and Rachael Sakowski (Marcus Fleming), his three sisters Mariane Kasza (Thomas Kasza), Susan Modic (William Modic), Monica Martin (Jonathan Martin), his five nephews Nicholas, Matthew, Scott, Andrew, and Chandler, his father-in-law Robert Sparks, sister-in-law Donna (Sparks) Brown (Richard Brown), niece Alicia Brown, and three great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Dolores (Potocki) Sakowski, his father Eugene Sakowski, mother-in-law Sue Ann Sparks, and nephew Michael Modic.
Steve's family and friends will gather on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 5:00PM-7:00PM at Huron River Methodist Church, Dexter, Michigan. His Community Farewell will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 11:00AM (10AM gathering), at Huron River Methodist Church, Dexter, Michigan. Rev. Tom Snyder will serve as celebrant.
