Steven Spain Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder's Memorial Gardens, Inc. - Gray on Feb. 19, 2026.
Steven Alan Spain, 71, of Johnson City, TN, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, at Quillen Rehabilitation Hospital from complications of renal disease. Born on July 27, 1954, in Johnson City, TN, he was the son of the late William and Lottie McIntyre Spain. He was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Spain Pratt, and his special dog and companion, Chip.

Steve was a proud graduate of Science Hill High School. He served his country with honor as a member of the United States Navy and later found his calling with the U.S. Postal Service, where he dedicated many years before retiring. After retiring, Steve enjoyed working at BP in Boones Creek, where he became a familiar face and formed many lasting friendships.

Steve loved his family deeply. He is survived by his sons, Josh Spain (Kelli) and Jarrod Spain (Elizabeth) of Jonesborough, TN, and his daughter, Jordan Spain of Johnson City, TN. He was a proud grandfather to Ella Spain, Isabel Spain, Sadler Spain, and Shaw Spain, who will miss their grandfather dearly.

He also leaves behind his longtime cherished companion, Belinda Baffa, along with her grandchildren, Cooper Williams and Adleigh Williams, all of whom he cared for deeply.

In addition, Steve is survived by his sister, Melinda Parker (Woody) of Nashville, TN; his brother, Larry Spain (Brenda) of Cookeville, TN; his sister, Debbie Pealer (Bill) of Bristol, TN; and his sister, Gail Spain of Salisbury, NC, as well as an abundance of nieces and nephews who lovingly knew him as "Uncle Head."

Steve was a man who found joy in sports throughout his life, both as a player and a spectator, particularly cheering on the Tennessee Volunteers. He loved the beach, hiking to waterfalls, trying out small-town diners, and traveling. Steve never missed an opportunity to explore new horizons and soak in the sun.

Steve lived with a bold spirit and a steadfast heart. He stood firmly in his convictions and was never easily swayed, yet those who knew him best cherished his playful humor and the quick wit that so often accompanied it. He left a lasting impression through his strength, laughter, and unmistakable presence. In many ways, his favorite song, " Reflections of My Life " captures what remains - reflections that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Tran and the staff at DaVita Dialysis for the loving care they provided to Steve.

Services to honor Steve will be held on March 14 at The Rock Fellowship Church in Johnson City, TN 37601. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a short service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the East Tennessee Kidney Foundation at www.etkidney.org/donate.
