Steven Russell Bradley, 78, passed away on June 15, 2025, in Anderson, South Carolina. Born on May 19, 1947, in Pelzer, South Carolina. Steve had a joke, a tale, and a thought for anyone who would listen. If he teased you, you knew he loved you.
Steve's life was marked by his unwavering faith and a deep desire to make an impact on his community. After earning his master’s degree in divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, he served as a pastor, a calling he cherished and spoke of often. He also held a AA in literature from Anderson College and a BA in religion from Furman University. Steve loved theology and had a passion for seeing others live out their faith. Even after leaving the pastorate, he remained involved in his church as he was able.
Steve was married to his bride, Harriet, for 57 years. Together, they raised three sons: Joseph Bradley (Venus), Brian Bradley (Maralee), and David Bradley (Alisha). As parents, they desired to model a life of faith and service for their sons. They cared for their parents as they aged. They invited people who needed support into their home. They made treats for school events. They stood up for what they believed was right- Steve wouldn’t back down from a fight if he thought the cause was just. They chose each other in sickness and in health.
Steve was a man of many interests. He had a voracious appetite for reading, which deepened his understanding of the world and offered him an escape. He relished telling childhood stories about making mischief with his siblings. He loved classic movies, Looney Tunes, and cooking for his family—especially his legendary rainbow cake. He loved a good Perry Mason or the Andy Griffith Show rerun. He was happiest when his jokes had an audience, his stories made people laugh, and his grandkids were smiling. He adored his grandchildren, often spoiling them with gifts, Happy Meals, and banana splits, always eager to bring them joy. He had a gift for making any child he interacted with feel special. His pets were equally doted on and never lacked affection or treats.
Steve was a cherished brother to Tim Bradley, brother-in-law to Allan Campbell (Kathy), and an honorary brother to Neal Cash. He was a proud grandfather to fifteen grandchildren and a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Edna Naomi Bradley, his sister Mildred Arflin (Hank), his brother Edward Bradley (Joanne, living), and his parents-in-law, Harold and Audrey Campbell.
Steve was a man of big dreams, always wondering what God might do through a willing heart. Though life didn’t unfold exactly as he imagined, the legacy he leaves, a life of faith, humor, and generosity is far greater than any of his dreams. His stories will live on, his lessons will echo in the lives of his children and grandchildren, and his impact will endure through all who knew and loved him.
