Steven Herbert Young, age 54, of Cloquet, MN, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on May 26, 2024 at his residence. He was born on November 23, 1969, in Duluth, Minnesota, to William L. Young and Joan M. Crawford Young.
Steve attended Congdon Park School, graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1987, and enlisted and served in the Army National Guard.
At the age of twelve, Steve became an entrepreneur and started his own business, mowing lawns and snow-blowing for his neighbors. Later, he worked with his father and grandfather at Bill Young Plumbing and Heating, starting out as helper, then completing his apprenticeship and becoming a journeyman plumber. He later served as a foreman and manager for Stout Mechanical Corporation. During those years Steve became a Master Plumber in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He later started his own plumbing and heating business, retiring in 2018.
Steve had a great sense of humor and entertained his family and friends throughout the years singing karaoke and even auditioning with his mother when "America's Funniest Home Videos" was in town.
He loved camping, boating, fishing and woodworking. Steve could fix anything from cars and trucks to designing and building homes and garages. He was a former member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 11, the Elks Club, Moose Club, AAD Temple Shrine, and the Masonic Lodge.
Steve attended Duluth Bible Church for several years and quietly helped others in need.
Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Virginia Young, James and Mardy Crawford.
Steve is survived by his wife, Carolyn and her son, "Punky"; mother-in-law, Clare Pearson; children, Blake and James Mullen; father, William L. Young (Jacquelyn Stever); mother, Joan Crawford; sister, Mardy Maki (Myron); brothers, Elliot, Evan and Eric Young; nephews, Parker and Wesley Maki; and many dear aunts, uncles and cousins.
Steve will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
Private services to be held at a later date.

Finding the words is very hard when you are try to catch your breath from this feeling of sincere loss. Steve was for me one of my closest friends, in our early days at Congdon Park Elementary it felt like brothers. Steve was always tinkering with something, and after he was done tinkering he would put it back together, but don't worry, any parts leftover Steve would tell me those were extra and not needed. My heart goes out to Steven's father Bill, mother Joan and his wife Carolyn, and his entire family.
Steve, although you and I had gone in a different direction through life, I thought of often and still had hopes that our paths would cross again some day. Rest easy my brother, I love you and I will miss you. God bless. Bryan Kent

Met Steve back in 98 or so in Canal Park working one of the motels. Got the job done, with always a good joke. Myself being a "wise-cracker" made it very fun. Seen him a few times after, we all went out own ways. Very sadden to see this. You will be missed, see ya when I get there. R I.P Steve
