Sue McCarty

Susan "Sue" McCarty, 79, of Shelbyville, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025.

She was born on July 27, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Jim and Marge Messina. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Dave McCarty, brother, Jim Messina and grandson, Andrew Straub.

Sue was a devoted wife and mother and long time member of the choir at the Church of the Annunciation in Shelbyville, KY. She and her husband, Dave, enjoyed their retirement while living on Guist Creek Lake, playing golf, boating, and traveling. Her love of family was unprecedented. She was always very proud of everyone's achievements, whether they be big or small. She was always quick with a kind word and was everyone's biggest cheerleader. If you knew Sue, you knew her kindness and generosity.

Sue is survived by her loving children, Mary Overstreet (Kevin), Terry Olson (Roger), Gary McCarty (Kay), Sheri Bruce (Chris), grandchildren, Lindsey Overstreet (Rachel DeVore), Johnny Watzl, David Straub (Jennifer), Danny Watzl, Christina Brunty (Cameron) and Carrie McCarty. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, friends and her French Bulldog, Zoie.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 12:00 pm on Friday, October 24, 2025 at Church of the Annunciation, (105 Main Street Shelbyville, KY 40065) with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Louisville, Kentucky.

The family requests that contributions in Sue’s memory be made to your local Humane Society.
