Sue E. Newell, 81, of Carthage, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage, Illinois.
Sue was born August 11, 1942, the daughter of Marlin and Wanda Lee (Harris) Reneau in Macomb, Illinois. She attended V.I.T. High School in Table Grove, Illinois, graduating in 1960. Sue graduated from Western Illinois University in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in English and Speech. She was united in marriage to Terry Newell on August 23, 1964, in Table Grove, Illinois. Sue taught English, Speech, and directed the class plays for many years at Carthage High School. She also taught English, Speech and Drama at Robert Morris College in Carthage for many years. She later became a recruiter and director of development at Robert Morris. Sue then worked as a trainer for major corporations in Chicago in human relations, and English and speech skills. She also worked alongside Terry in a customer service business for auto dealers called Follow-Up Plus, and assisted Terry at Crooked Creek Art Gallery.
She is survived by her husband, Terry Newell of Carthage; her son Casey (Tracy) Newell of Edina, Minnesota and three grandchildren, Sam, Ben, and Liam Newell, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Karen Reneau and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A scholarship fund will be established in Sue's name. Memorials may be directed to The Sue Newell Scholarship Fund. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Printy Funeral Home in Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
